Spinmaker is one of the first nylon fabrics ever used by Birdwell trunks, and the company claims that it's one of the toughest nylons out there. In fact, trunks made of this fabric earned the nickname “Bullet Proof”.

This is the second toughest nylon available and it’s known for its thick, soft, satin-like feel. Who would have believed something so comfortable could be so durable?

The Oxford is made out of a different weave, and as such, is not as smooth as some of its counterparts. Nonetheless, this is still a tough fabric that is available in a wide array of colors, including:

Introduced in 1992, this nylon looks and feels just like cotton, and is one of their more popular fabrics. Colors available in this fabric are limited to:

• Birdwell Long Version

Birdwell also makes a longer version of their classic swim trunks. Here, the traditional fifteen-inch inseam is replaced by one that is eighteen inches in length; falling a bit lower than the mid thigh. Note, however, that these trunks have no inner lining.

Once you do find the perfect Birdwell swim trunks, it’s important to know how to measure your size correctly. Keep in mind that Birdwell trunks tend to run one size small. Here are a few of those measuring tips:

One of the easiest measuring rules is to simply add two inches to the size you normally wear. With this method you wouldn’t be using a measuring tape to measure your body at all. The actual difference between the sizes is usually about a half an inch, but adding two gets the size right about 90 percent of the time.

For this method, you’ll need a soft measuring tape. Stand normally, but pull in your stomach “slightly”. Measure your waist at your belly button, then measure where you normally wear your pants.

The next step is to measure from the top of your pants down the side of your leg, taking care to stop at the exact length you want.

Perhaps the easiest method of all is to simply measure the trunks you normally wear and shop accordingly.
