Brazilian Bikini Waxing

From LoveToKnow Swimsuits

A Brazilian bikini waxing is a must if you plan on wearing some of the exotic swimsuits and daring bikinis out there! Here’s the low-down on this super popular hair removal technique.

Different Types of Bikini Waxes

Lest you think there is only one type of wax available out there, namely the Brazilian bikini wax, here’s a quick run down on the subtle differences between several popular variations.

  • The Bikini Wax: There was a time when this type of hair removal was considered risqué! With the standard bikini wax, hair is removed from outside the panty line.
  • The Playboy Bikini Wax: Named after the world’s most desirable “playmates” the Playboy Bikini wax removes all the hair from the labia and the tush (this includes the peri-anal area). When you are finished, all that’s left is a narrow strip of hair in the front.
  • The Sphinx: While we can only wonder at the name, this is your basic full bikini wax. This means that everything, and we do mean everything, is removed.

About Brazilian Bikini Waxing

So what happens when you get a Brazilian bikini wax? First, know that you will be completely exposed. Occasionally a disposable thong is provided, but you shouldn’t bank on that! Expect to be in the buff. Here are the steps.

  • Step 1: The hair is snipped with scissors to ensure that the wax reaches your follicles.
  • Step 2: Typically using a wooden stick, the technician places warm wax on the area a little bit at a time. This ensures complete coverage.
  • Step 3: As is true with a regular bikini wax, cloth strips are placed over the warm wax, and then quickly pulled in the opposite direction of hair growth to remove all vestiges of the hair from the skin.
  • Step 4: Once the task has been completed, expect the technician to examine your body for stray hairs. If any remain, they’ll be tweezed off.

Possible Pitfalls

Like any new venture, there is always the possibility of a few bumps along the way. A few things you can expect include:

Embarrassment

You might feel some embarrassment, but only if you allow yourself to! Remember, you are paying handsomely for this service, so chances are good that your technician will be kind, and God-willing, quick! If that fails, keep in mind that most technicians have seen it all before, and once they begin their job, they can be blessedly clinical.

Red Bumps and Ingrown Hairs

Similar to shaving, you may experience red bumps and/or ingrown hairs. Your best bet here is to discuss this possibility with your technician; she’ll be able to tell you exactly what to do.

Itching

Yes, this one’s not pleasant to discuss, but nonetheless, true. Itching, especially as the hair comes back in, is a distinct possibility.

Grow Back

Unfortunately, the hair does come back, usually in about three weeks time. Once that happens, and if you’re so inclined, you’ll have to go through the Brazilian bikini waxing process all over again.

What to Do

On the plus side, many report that Brazilian bikini waxing is not that bad. In fact, many say that over time, your skin just becomes less sensitive, and as a result, the process hurts less and less.

So, should you try it? Many say (and this includes men as well) that they feel fabulous afterwards, and incredibly sexy. It may in fact be a great thrill to try something many people consider quite daring!

However, if you are feeling a bit gun-shy, consider your options. Think about the swimsuit you’ll be wearing, or the cut of your lingerie (skimpy or full coverage?). If you tend to sport a more modest look, then consider opting for a simple bikini wax. See how well you tolerate the pain and hair re-growth, and then move on from there. If you like the results, feel free to go more bold; you may just love your new look!

Hello, The best thing you can do is ask the professional who is performing the wax. Since this person has intimate details about the formula they are using, they'll best be able to guide you. Thanks so much for the post!

If the waxer doesn't get all of the hair, is it safe to shave when you get home? Or will that cancel out the effects of the wax and the hair will grow back in sooner?

Hi Allie,

Doing a test run may be a very good idea- this way you can see how you feel about it, and if it's uncomfortable for you "growing back in". Although, since you're still in high school, it's not really necessary for you to have one. While it's a personal choice, we think you probably look beautiful enough without it. Have a great time on your trip!
