Full Figure Swimsuits
From LoveToKnow Swimsuits
Finding perfect full figure swimsuits may once have been a difficult task. Today, a crop of stylish, fashion-forward, plus-sized swimsuits has emerged, making it easy to find something suitable.
Choosing the Right Full Figure Swimsuits
There's no need to cover up in shorts and T-shirts anymore. The selection of sizzling swimwear geared toward full-figured women is glamorous, sexy, and, most importantly, flattering. Full-figured women have a variety of options available to them, including classic suits, swim dresses, tankinis and more.
Choosing the right full figure swimsuit can be a tough task if you aren't sure where to start. Body type is the first thing to consider in selecting appropriate swimwear.
Body Type
What is your body type? You may be any one of the following:
- Apple: You have a full bust and a less defined waistline.
- Circle: You have a larger waist and smaller shoulders and hips.
- Hourglass: Your waist is defined, and your shoulders and hips are balanced.
- Inverted Triangle: Your shoulder area is wider than your hips.
- Rectangle: You are proportioned equally from your shoulders to your hips.
- Triangle, or pear: Your hips are wider than your bust.
Suits by Body Type
Once you know your body type, you are well on your way to finding that perfect swimsuit. Make the most of your figure by accentuating your strongest features and concealing those trouble spots. Finding full figure swimsuits can be easy – and even fun – with a few pointers.
Apple
Women who have apple body types may feel that their options are somewhat limited, but this couldn't be further from the truth. The key is to draw attention away from the less defined midriff, stomach and hips.
First and foremost, a full bust requires support. Look for under wire tops that will provide maximum support without sacrificing comfort. Also look for swimsuits that are constructed with an elastic band that wraps around the back. It will add extra support to the bust area.
If you find an under wire too uncomfortable, halter tops and cross-strap styles can be great substitutes.
Circle
The circle body type calls for a suit that draws attention upward, away from the waistline. A swimsuit that features a detailed top will shift the focus from the larger waist to the more defined shoulder area. Look for extravagant designs, faux jewels or wild, colorful prints.
The neckline also has the ability to flatter a figure. A low-cut v-neck or a halter top, for example, will ensure that the focus remains on the upper body. A sweetheart neckline will draw attention to the face. Meanwhile, a shirred fabric, or any type that is gently gathered or textured, will flatter the lower half of the body. Other options include quick-drying shorts with built-in panties and slip-on skirts.
Hourglass
Accentuating the defined waistline of an hourglass figure is relatively easy. The options are seemingly endless, from stylish bikinis to asymmetrical tankinis to classic cuts. The key is to show off your curves!
Waistlines that are defined by an intense print work wonderfully on hourglass shapes. Look for swimsuits that feature bold, colorful patterns. They will keep the attention focused on all parts equally. A swimsuit constructed of a greater percentage of spandex or Lycra will help smooth out bulges.
A high-cut leg accentuates the natural curves of the hips. If you aren't comfortable wearing a bikini, consider a fitted tankini top in a bright pattern and a complementary, yet slightly subdued, bottom piece.
Inverted Triangle
Broad-shouldered types will benefit from a suit that minimizes the top. A suit with a high-cut neckline, will draw attention away while emphasizing the bottom half. A wide, squared neckline will also create an illusion of smaller shoulders. It is important here, too, to find a suit that will provide ample support for the bust.
In this case, consider an "inverted swimsuit" of sorts: a smooth, solid top and a colorful, patterned bottom. A two-piece suit that includes a swim skirt will balance the figure.
Rectangle
The rectangle is also known as the "ruler" shape. If you are equally proportioned from your shoulders to your waist, the trick is to find a suit that creates the illusion of curvy definition. This may sound difficult, but it's surprisingly simple. Bright, punchy, bold designs are ideal for rectangle shapes.
Make the most of your figure by selecting a suit with a detailed waistline, such as a border or trim. A diagonally striped design also results in a curvier look.
Triangle
A triangle is also considered a pear shape. The key here is to shift the focus from the lower to the upper body. This can be accomplished with a low-cut suit with a wide neckline, which will instantly draw attention to the narrow, defined shoulder area.
If you prefer to wear a one-piece, consider a racer back or boat neck, which will create an illusion of broader shoulders. The result is a balanced, flattering look.
Two-piece suits may offer more options. A halter-style top in a light, monochromatic hue or patterned floral paired with a dark bottom is ideal for the triangle figure. Solid, dark bottoms will minimize the hip area.
The Bottom Line
Not all plus size shapes are the same, nor are all full figure swimsuits alike. The beauty is in the vast selection available for every different body type. Once you have determined your body type, you are well on your way to finding the right suit. Make the most of your strongest features!

I am a rectangle shape- plus size- and PETITE. I just had surgery and also need good tummy control. My torso is 63.5 in. Where can I get anything remotely to fit?
