Meet the Designer

Meet Natalie Walker, the driving force behind Natalie Nicole Swim. As a designer, Natalie has worked for some of the top brands in the industry, including Nautica and Speedo. Like many of us, Natalie had her own issues with swimsuit fitting after the births of her two children. This inspired her to design her own line of swimwear tailored especially for moms. She wanted to create attractive suits that fit well, yet were modest enough for a mom going swimming with her children.

As a mom, Natalie also shared a concern that many moms face regardsing swimsuit styles that are too mature for the little girls they are designed for. This inspired Natalie to create styles for girls that are truly age appropriate. Inspired by her own daughter Nicole's love of dressing to match mommy, Natalie took her ideas one step farther and created a line of mother and daughter matching swimwear. In keeping with the times, the line eschews "cutesy" styles in favor of contemporary, clean lines that both moms and daughters can appreciate.

Natalie, please tell us a little about Natalie Nicole Swim.

I founded Natalie Nicole Swim after the birth of my daughter Nicole. She was the reason I had retired from the industry, yet also my inspiration for creating a new line of matching mother and daughter swimwear.

I loved the idea of dressing alike with my son, but the idea of matching Nicole was obviously more appealing and easier to pull off. Since swimwear is the business that I know so well, carrying out my ideas through swimsuit designs seemed like the natural thing to do. I also felt like there was a huge need to help moms with their swimwear offerings, and thought I could address both issues at the same time.

What is the attraction of mother and daughter matching swimwear?

It's really a fun thing for a mother and child to do. It's not just about shopping together, although that can be a total blast. Getting dressed together can also be a fun and very bonding experience. No matter where Nicole and I are together, whether on vacation in a hotel, at the country club pool or on the beach, we get smiles and inquiries from everyone. And obviously everyone can tell which little girl is mine!.

What do you think moms like most about these swimsuits?

Natalie Nicole swimwear is designed for real moms with real bodies! We take into account all the concerns that moms have about revealing their bodies. We always offer a tankini so moms that wish to cover their tummy can easily do so. We also offer adequate rear coverage, and we always offer a coverup skirt so moms can feel comfortable walking around the pool, beach or wherever they are.

In terms of matching, I love to think that moms can look as adorable as their daughters do in a matching swimsuit. It can be a sweet way to relive your childhood!

Why does wearing swimwear just like mom's appeal to little girls?

Let me start by saying that my daughter will not let me go to the pool in a bathing suit that doesn't match her own. We now must always wear matching swimsuits. Little girls believe that their own moms are always the prettiest, and they love to identify with them.

Tell us about some of the most popular Natalie Nicole designs.

Tankinis and matching skirts are the hits for mom. Triangle bikinis, skirted swimsuits as well as tankinis are our most popular styles for girls.

What is your size range for moms and daughters?

Sizes for moms cover XS through XL. Our girls sizes run 2-14. We're finding that children are actually getting larger. A seven-year-old girl may need a size 12 or 14 these days, even though her heart and soul are still only seven. We strive to preserve a girls naivety through our designs and simply offer them across all sizes. Our customers seem to appreciate this fact, and we do get a lot of thank you letters.
