Serena Williams in a White Swimsuit
From LoveToKnow Swimsuits
White isn't just for the tennis court anymore! Need proof? Take a look at star athlete Serena Williams in white swimsuits worn for a Sports Illustrated magazine's 2003 swimsuit edition photo shoot. The suits range from sexy to retro to sporty, as does Serena Williams herself.
Serena Williams in a White Swimsuit
Although she is pursuing other interests, such as designing a line of clothing, Serena Williams is very serious about her status as one of the top-ranked female tennis players in the world.
She has a perfect athlete's body, consisting of almost solid muscle. To capture her in a swimsuit now is to have a snapshot for all time of what a star sportsperson looks like at the height of their capacity. Her figure shows what it means to nurture and work the self – without having an ounce of fat on her, Serena Williams eats to maintain her power and has the medals to prove it. Encased in a sleek swimsuit, she is a model of female strength and ability, as well as the inherent sexiness that comes with such strength.
Serena Williams in a white swimsuit, seductive poses and all, is no accident. She wears white for her professional tennis playing and so the choice reflects her professional life. Of course, it also looks great against her dark skin, showing off her figure and form to perfection.
An Array of Suits
Since Serena Williams is very interested in and serious about style, it's also no surprise that she would not confine herself to just one swimsuit for her Sports Illustrated appearance. Very likely, everyone who views the resultant pictures will have a favorite choice, as they are all very different.
Two of the suits are bikinis – one is a modern, skimpy suit with an abbreviated bottom that still provides full coverage. The other suit is a classic retro two-piece with an optional sarong. It is so flattering, one wishes the stylist had recalled another Williams – Esther – and piled Serena's hair on her head, adding a white flower.
The other two suits are one-pieces, which Serena Williams proves can be sexy without being minimalist. One of the suits is a simple halter with a low cut front, although not overly plunging. It vaguely recalls the top of the famous dress worn by Marilyn Monroe in The Seven Year Itch.
The other suit is similarly modest and yet sexy. It is a one-shoulder suit with a tie strap and a beige stripe that goes diagonally across the torso, adding a slimming effect that Serena Williams does not need but that still looks great.
Finally, she also appears in a white swim dress very like a tennis dress. She was shot in this jumping on a trampoline to get the full effect of the skirt and to give a more truly athletic look to the picture.
Serena Williams in a white swimsuit standing still looks great – very strong and sexy – but in motion, she's riveting, and that's what's captured in the picture. If you want to see what it really looks like when moving, check out this short video of the shoot.
Finding the Serena Williams Suits
Although the photographs of Serena Williams in the white swimsuits are timeless, the suits themselves are not. Designs and trends change so quickly, it would be very difficult to try and find any of the exact suits she wore for the shoot. You may have the best luck emulating the retro two-piece, because so many designers are committed to re-creating this look.
Pin-Up Girl Clothing is a good place to start, as they have a selection of suits from the more classic 1940s style with the high waist to those with skimpier bottoms. If you want one in plain white, you may need to request a custom order. You can also try Pandora's Choice, a UK site that offers a really accurate reproduction 1940s swimsuit, with added tummy control if you're not as toned as Serena Williams.
