About Sexy Bikinis
Any swimsuit has the potential to be provocative, but if you're looking for a sure thing to catch attention at the beach, sexy bikinis will do it every time.
Louis Reard's original bikini design was considered awfully daring in its day, but in the years since its debut, the bikini has undergone numerous design changes, shrinking to a sliver of its original size.
Today's swimmers have quite a few choices before them. Will it be a string triangle top or a full halter? Should it be paired up with swim shorts or a tanga bottom? There's really no end to the number of combinations you can make, and with most serious swimsuit stores selling pieces separately, you can mix and match as many pieces as you like for a full swim wear ensemble!
Style Review
Let's take a look at some of the most popular styles of sexy bikinis.
String Bikinis
The first real variation from the original bikini design, string bikinis have enjoyed constant popularity since the day they first hit the market.
Strings ties are used to anchor top pieces behind the neck, and behind the ribs. Typically, tops are patches of triangle-shaped fabric that cover the breasts, and because the bottom of each triangle has a string threaded through it, you can adjust your coverage to reveal as little or as much as you like.
String ties are also used to secure bottom pieces at the hips, using less fabric, so you wind up with less coverage.
Brazilian Bikinis
While string bikinis are a bit daring, the Brazilian bikini can be a real shocker. A design perfected for the sunny shores of South America, Brazilian bikinis use a great deal less fabric than the average string bikini.
Top pieces are generally half the size of a full bikini top, and are available in styles such as:
- Triangles- patches of triangle fabric
- Halters- like triangles, but fuller
- Bandeaus- mini tube tops
Bottom pieces also vary in the amount of coverage they provide.
- Tangas- most coverage
- Asa Deltas- less coverage
- Fio Dentals- think dental floss
Micro Bikinis
If you think Brazilian bikinis are daring, you haven't seen anything until you've seen a micro. These swimsuits are little more than strategic patches held in place with strings or straps. Thong bottoms are standard.
Micro bikinis are generally made with Lycra, since the ability of the fabric to hug the body is crucial to keep the suit in place, however, you will find micros made with other fabrics including vinyl, leather, and mesh.
Micro bikinis are often more suitable as show pieces, and their wear is restricted at most public swimming venues.
Slingshot Bikinis
Not exactly a bikini or a one piece, slingshots are often lumped into the same category as sexy bikinis because of the extreme lack of coverage they provide.
Also referred to as "pretzels" because you can choose to wear the top of the suit criss-crossed, slingshot bikinis use minimal fabric and strategic tension to keep them in place. They look fabulous, but they aren't very useful for actual swimming.
Conclusion
Sexy bikinis come in so many styles, you really need to try some on before you can be sure which design looks best on you. Be daring, and try pieces on you might not normally wear. Who knows, you may wind up choosing a piece you would have never considered before!
