String Tanga
From LoveToKnow Swimsuits
String tangas are sexy and bold, and they're probably one of the most internationally accepted swimsuits out there. Not quite a thong, yet not quite your standard string bikini, the string tanga is a good way to blend in with Europeans, fit in on the beaches of South America and even on the beaches like Miami, Florida and Malibu.
What Is a String Tanga?
A string tanga bikini bottom is considered somewhat similar to a thong bikini, except that it doesn't feature a true "string" back. Instead, the string tanga has a "V" shaped back that disappears into the buttocks at around mid-hip, with very little coverage in the front and a general lower rise than a standard bikini bottom. However, in comparison to a traditional thong, the Brazilian style swimsuit bottoms have a higher rise along the hips and back.
Do I Need to Wax?
Unless you've been blessed with an amazing smooth nether region or have endured multiple sessions of laser hair removal, you will need to wax thoroughly. The Brazilian bikini wax is a smart choice for women who want to wear a string tanga that doesn't just require you to remove hair from the pubic area, but from the back as well. Instead of shaving, you can wax away for a smoother look for six to eight weeks.
Buy a Tanga
- Yoox is a great place to pick up string tanga bikinis from a variety of designers including Liberty of London, Osklen and Poisson D'Amour. They are frequently on sale as well.
- Pick up tangas that are often on sale from Bluefly. While they don't always carry the tanga style, you'll be pleased with what you do find if you check back regularly. Look for basic styles that you can take with you anywhere!
- Don't forget about Victoria's Secret where you'll find a number of tanga-style swimsuits for the casual woman.
- Buy tangas at Diane von Furstenberg. You can buy sophisticated, high-end swimsuits styles that look hot and keep you cool.
Tanga Dos and Don'ts
Need help getting your tanga to work for you? Here are some fit tips to help you look amazing.
- Don't wear a tanga that's too tight along the sides. It will squeeze you in the wrong places and make you feel bulkier and less attractive. If you have a straight or square body type, get a tanga with tie sides that make it easier to adjust the look and avoid the bikini squeeze.
- Do stay far away from tangas that are too big. In the worst case scenario, your tanga will dip down and hang between your legs, leaving you exposed, and even if that doesn't happen, you will be uncomfortable and run the risk of your suit sliding off in the surf.
- Do experiment with color. Tanga bikinis are small enough to handle wild prints and colors, and summertime is a great period to show off your personal taste.
- Don't match you tanga with everything else that you are wearing. Coordinate, don't dominate! You can pick out colors that complement your swimsuit selections, but don't stay stuck on the same old colors. When in doubt, choose a black cover-up and flip flops to hit the beach in a flash.
- Do feel confident. Not only is it important for your overall well-being, but the tanga is not the swimsuit you want to don if you are feeling ill at ease. When you feel ready, go for it!
- Do work out before wearing your tanga. A tighter body, as well as a well-maintained one with great curves, is flattered by the tanga look.
