As disappointing as it is to her many fans, there are very few Taylor Swift bikini pictures. Entire web sites and blog posts have been set up preparing for the day when there will be plenty of pictures to fill them, but for now, they are few and far between.

Although named one of Maxim's sexiest women of 2008, singer-songwriter Taylor Swift does not seem too interested in overtly sexy photos. You can find one shot purportedly of Taylor in a bikini posted at the celebrity wallpaper site Zimbio.com, although it's doubtful whether or not it's really Taylor. The image is an aerial shot that shows a young woman lying in a purple inner tube in a very blue swimming pool. She is wearing a relatively modest peach bikini and has her head tilted back with her eyes closed, looking very relaxed. Her hair is unusually straight and she isn't the least bit wet. If you look closely, you can see that it's actually a studio shot and she isn't anywhere near water. That said, it's still an attractive picture.

There's also another image said to be Taylor posted on PhotoBucket.com by Starlitnews. Again, it's difficult to tell if this is really Taylor, and the beach shot only shows from the shoulders up. For fans searching for Taylor swimsuit photos, the results are rather disappointing.

Celebrity swimsuit pictures are nothing new – movie studios used to insist that stars pose in swimsuits for publicity. Betty Grable showed how sexy a one-piece could be with her classic World War II poster. However, not all stars like to be photographed this way, and Taylor Swift's bikini look seems to be kept mostly to her own pool.

Since Taylor has a classic style, it wouldn't be too surprising to see her in a vintage bikini – something that is still more modest and yet has charm and appeal. Her many photographs and magazine covers emphasize a more romantic look, so one might almost imagine a Taylor Swift bikini shot on a windswept beach, probably with a floaty cover-up to add to the soft, classic look that matches her music so well.

She did wear a black bikini with tie-strap bottoms in her video I'm Only Me When I'm With You, but no one has yet to post any satisfying screen shots from that video.

While Swift clearly embraces her beauty and sexuality, she has usually avoided the sort of overtly sexy photo shoot that many celebrities feel obligated to do. Since she is still very young, she may choose to do something different down the line, but her awareness of some of the problems associated with sexual imagery suggests she may try to keep a strong control over her portrayal. She has been active in work that helps prevent teen pregnancy, and she started a campaign in 2007 aimed at protecting children from online predators.

Of course, images of celebrities in swimsuits don't have anything to do with children being preyed upon, but it's possible that Taylor Swift's concern for children is part of what keeps her from wanting to be that overt a sex symbol for her fans.

The lack of a celebrity bikini photo doesn't stop people who think money can be made from tinkering with Photoshop and creating a set of the star in various bikini shots. It has become disturbingly easy for anyone to do this and do so anonymously, although fortunately, most people realize when a shot is fake.

While some people feel the need to create fictitious images, they should also be mindful that, should such images become widespread, it's not hard to trace the fakes back to their source; potential legal ramifications and liability for damages may follow.
