Tonga Bikinis
From LoveToKnow Swimsuits
Not familiar with tonga bikinis? These swimsuits are really gaining ground, or should we say beach, with swimmers and sunbathers all over the world. Maybe you should consider adding one to your swimwear wardrobe.
About Tonga Bikinis
What will the fashionable beachcomber be wearing to the beach this summer? Chances are, it will be a tonga.
Tonga bikinis are skyrocketing in popularity. Once relegated to the category of racy swimwear, these daring bikini bottoms were thought to be just a bit too revealing for public wear. However, as time passed, people seemed to get used to the idea of baring a significant portion of their backsides at the beach, so tonga bikinis gradually made their way into mainstream beachwear.
The Cut
So what's all the fuss been about? In a word, the "cut" of the swimsuit bottom.
Although there are many styles of swimwear, many bikini bottoms are the traditional "scoop" bottom piece. This style is relatively tame, covering almost the full back side.
Tonga bikinis are a modified version of the thong. Thong bikini bottoms are cut very low in the front, and have only a thin strip of elastic material running between the cheeks in the rear. If you've ever heard of a floss bikini, that's a popular nickname for a thong.
Tonga bikinis, while quite sexy, are slightly more conservative than a classic thong. The front of the bottom piece is a small triangle that connects to the back piece by strings or thin pieces of spandex. The back piece is an ultra small triangle that provides about two to three more inches of coverage than a traditional thong.
Why Wear One?
There are a couple of good reasons to wear tonga bikinis.
First, if you want to look sexy without giving it all away, the tonga is a great teaser. It shows a lot of cheek, but still leaves a little to the imagination- a little, not a lot.
Then, there's sun worshipping to be considered. If you like to tan, then you probably want a suit that lets you tan as much of your body as possible. The extra exposure that goes along with wearing tonga bikinis really increases your tanning area, meaning no more pale moon rising. You get the idea. Just remember not to skimp on the sunscreen lotion.
Tonga Care
Tongas, like any thong-style swimwear, need special care to extend their wear life:
- Hand wash your tonga after each use. The cut of the suit means serious exposure to germs that can become imbedded in the elastic. This can cause the suit to wear out much faster, and can also promote irritation and rashes. Use a mild lingerie or swimsuit detergent that will also help preserve the color of your suit.
- Never machine dry your tonga. Excessive heat will wear out the elastic, causing it to stretch. This will drastically affect the fit of your suit, and believe it, nothing could be more unattractive than a droopy tonga.
Caution
Tongas may be popular, but they aren't the swimsuit for everyone. Some people find the back of the suit a little uncomfortable, while others simply find it a little too revealing for public wear. However, if you've got the confidence to wear one, a tonga will definitely bring you some extra attention at the beach.
