Very Cheap Board Shorts

From LoveToKnow Swimsuits

For an occasional and casual beachgoer or a growing child, very cheap board shorts might seem a better option than those of higher quality. Before you go this route, just be sure you know exactly what the shorts will be used for.

Finding Very Cheap Board Shorts

Laying hands on the board shorts you want at the price you want can be a bit of a trick. When budget is the main consideration, it's important to set your top price for yourself, and then be prepared to do some work to find an item that will suit your needs. Bear in mind that sometimes the amount of labor you put into finding very cheap board shorts will end up negating that low price.

Luckily, people on the search for serious bargains are no longer limited to such venues as thrift shops, flea markets, yard sales or outlet malls. Much of the same sort of shopping can be achieved online, using searches on sites like Craig's List, eBay and Freecycle. The last site mentioned is one of the best because you can get great items for free. Simply place a "Wanted" request and see what happens. If you're looking for children's board shorts, especially in a toddler size, you might be pleasantly surprised by how many people might have some they are happy to give away.

With sites that sell, you can set up a search that lets you know when something new has come in. You can be as specific as you want to be, including size, length, color and brand, if that's applicable. While you are less likely to find a quality name brand at a price you deem affordable, it's still worth looking.

Always Check Sales

If by "very cheap board shorts" you mean $10.00 or less, this route may not work for you, but if you want quality board shorts like O'Neill's at half the original price, you should keep an eye out for markdowns. As always, buying at the end of the season can yield serious bargains. This is true either via a web site or at a brick-and-mortar store. The latter can be the better way to go because they need to shift merchandise and will do some serious slashing. Plus, you don't have to pay for shipping. Furthermore, if you're feeling gutsy, you can try your luck with haggling. This won't always work, but in tough economic times, a store that is desperate to get rid of some things might be willing to knock a bit extra off the sales price, or give you an additional item at a much lower price. Approach them nicely, and ask if there's any way they can do a bit better on the price – oftentimes, they can.

Cheapness at a Price

Dollar stores and outdoor markets can have cheap swimwear – you often don't even have to pay any tax. However, more often than not, you are getting what you pay for in the way of poor quality fabric and workmanship. The shorts will start looking worn after a few washes - they may not even last an entire summer. The fabric might be chemically treated, making the skin more prone to rashes. And if you're looking for board shorts to wear while surfing, the performance might be very disappointing. There is a reason why the better board shorts cost more – it's all about thoughtful design by people who understand the activity and needs of surfers and ocean swimmers. Better shorts are designed to not bunch up, cling or balloon. They will stay in place on the body, won't chafe and will dry quickly. If you want shorts just as a cover-up for a few times in a summer, going the cheap route might work just fine, but if you're looking for something in which to enjoy ocean activities, you may want to spend a bit more and economize somewhere else. You'll be happy you did.
